Voices from the boat park – Monday 5th
Oliver Thomson sailing for Switzerland
We came here on Saturday so I haven’t had so much time to other things not related to the sailing. Hopefully we’ll have time on a layday to have a look around. I am sailing for the English sailing club Hayling Island Sailing Club. Yesterday I was 13th, which is pretty good but I hope to do even better today. The hardest thing about sailing is if you end up on the wrong side of an upwind and have to do really good to advance in the fleet. The best thing is when it is blowing 15 knots!
My fan club (my family) will be watching the races from a RIB. Good support, explains Oliver.
Alice Davis from GBR sailing for Great Moor SC
I am first in row for launching the boat. I am eager to get going and want to be early on the water. I think I am doing fine when it is shifty but sailing in stronger wind is really fun. My family is here. My brother does not sail as he prefer going on a RIB rather than sailing. It would be great to win but ending up in the top three would be good, says a hopeful Alice.
Bengt Bengtsson from Gottskär in Sweden
I am sailing the RS Aero here. Even though we are not in the spotlight like the RS Teras are, we are happy to be here and enjoy it. I am sailing with the 9 sqm sail. I am not as young, strong and fit as I used to be but I believe I can handle the big sail, concludes Bengt.
