One of the last great wildernesses in the world
Ljungskile is situated in the province of Bohuslän, famous for its beautiful coastline that runs almost 280 kilometres up Sweden’s west side, from the city of Gothenburg all the way up to Norway.
The rocky coast and archipelago, with about 8000 islands, is mostly made up by gneiss in the South and Bohus granite in the North. The once rough minerals created billions of years ago, was eventually shaped and rounded by giant land-based ice sheets, thereof the coastline’s uniquely smooth appearance.
The area is ranked 7th among the world’s last great wilderness areas by CNN Travel, who describes Bohuslän like this:
