RS Tera Worlds becomes an Eco-labelled Event
This year’s Worlds in RS Tera will be the sailing party of the summer in Ljungskile, Sweden. The club has high ambitions for the event in all its aspects. To be a certified environment friendly event has been the outspoken goal from Day One for Ljungskile Segelsällskaps (LjSS). The club received certification by being awarded the “Environmental award for Events” by the Foundation “Keep Sweden Tidy”.
For many years, LjSS has worked actively within the foundation ”Keep Sweden Tidy” as a natural part of the sailing school in the Club. The sea is the arena of Sailing and now all sailors and families with be given experiences with minimum environmental footprint.
Working with “Keep Sweden Tidy” and being awarded the “Environmental award for Events” has been both challenging and rewarding. LjSS has worked closely with its members, sponsors and partners to find environmentally friendly solutions.
More than 80 sailors between 10 and 18 years old and from 11 different nations (Denmark, Great Britain, Lithuania, Poland, Rumania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and USA) will participate in the event.
We want RS Tera World Challenge Trophy 2019 to be a role model within the sailing sport, says Helena Barne, president of the LjSS. We shall by our actions decrease environmental footprint of the event, share knowledge on environment and sustainable development on land and on water as well as create awareness and engagement on environmental issues within LjSS, national and international sailing.
The company Ahead, owned by sailing profile, lecturer and Management Consultant Anna-Karin S. Öjerskog is now sponsor for the certification and has been working with her daughter and Management of the LjSS Worlds for the application to receive the Environmental Award for Events.
I have been ambassador in several ways for ”Keep Sweden Tidy” all the way since I started the company 12 years ago, says Anna-Karin. I have cleaned beaches, been a Coast Guard and performed a “Trash-free Swedish Classic”. To contribute with knowledge, time and financing in order to get the Environmental award for Events for the LjSS Worlds feels great and very much in line with what Ahead stands for.
